KUCHING: Those in the hair and beauty industry who have acquired skills and knowledge are urged to take up entrepreneurial trainings to move forward in the highly competitive industry.

Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datin Fatimah Abdullah said this was important to keep their business afloat besides keeping abreast with the ever-changing hair and beauty trends.

“If you don’t know about entrepreneurship, you must learn. Learn to market yourself and your business with marketing strategies and establish a strong business network. Above all, you must be very strong, creative and innovative,” said Fatimah at the JF Academy and Maison Monica Hair and Beauty Academy Convocation here yesterday.

She reminded them that graduation was not the end of the learning path, but in fact the beginning of life as customers demand that their hair and body are done safely and professionally by qualified people in the industry.

Apart from safety, the services provided must be based on research findings and must be sustainable, she added.

A total of 66 students from the two academies received their scrolls yesterday.

Maison Monica Hair and Beauty Academy had a very humble beginning as a beauty salon in 1971 before its founder Monica Then decided to formally incorporate a training department into its operation in 1996 even though it had provided training to apprentices right from the early 80s.

The training centre is accredited by the Skills Development Department and obtained international recognition from JF Academy, City and Guilds (UK) London and Pivot Point International USA.

Also present were Maison Monica Hair and Beauty Academy principal Monica Then, vice principal Gene Thian and JF Academy managing director Dato Aric Ng.
