SANDAKAN: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Barisan Nasional (BN) would not take the two opposition candidates from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) lightly in the Batu Sapi by-election.

He said BN had never felt that way but saw each contest as a difficult challenge which would be faced with certain strategies.

“We are drawing up the strategies to convince the voters in Batu Sapi that Datin Linda (Tsen Thau Lin) is the best candidate and will be able to serve them well. To me, Datin Linda is the best candidate to contest the seat and I have full trust in the decision to field her in this by-election,” he told reporters after the nomination process at the Sandakan Community Hall, here, yesterday.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Batu Sapi by-election campaign coordinator for BN, said BN was aware that Pakatan Rakyat and SAPP would be highlighting local and national issues during campaigning.

“This is only normal in an election but we will have the answers for each issue raised.  I believe that if we can give convincing answers, the voters will support our candidate.”

Asked on BN strategies in the simultaneous by-elections in Batu Sapi and the Galas state seat, Kelantan, he said the political scenarios in the two constituencies were different but what was important was to get close to the voters and convince them that BN was the best choice for them. — Bernama
