MECCA: Pos Malaysia’s insurance scheme for baggage sent by Malaysian Haj pilgrims who perform their Haj in Saudi Arabia, has received very good response from pilgrims since about 40 percent have chosen to insure their luggages.

According to Pos Malaysia’s Haj Baggage Services Project manager for Mecca/Madinah, Zaini Yahman, yesterday 53.4 tonnes of baggage was received and 44 tonnes had been sent to Malaysia.

Poslaju had also sent 3,455 bottles of zamzam water and 2,000 have already reached the intended destinations.

“Revenue from the delivery services has contributed RM1.2 million to Pos Malaysia so far and reaching the 200 tonnes targeted is not impossible,” Zaini told reporters here yesterday.

Pos Malaysia introduced the scheme this year as an added value product for pilgrims and those who seek such insurance need pay only SR2 as premium payment of insurance for products worth SR1,000 and products that are damaged or lost before delivery would be replaced or funded.

Zaini when met at Burj Al-Salah, one of the nine hotels where Pos Malaysia were allowed to provide such services by TH Travels & Services, said all the baggage under the insurance scheme had reached the recipients and no complaints or claims had been received.

He added that baggage would reach the respective destinations in about 14 days from the date it was sent.

Zaini was also glad that none of the baggage contained any banned products or those restricted by the Customs Department. “Those who need information or clarification on claims, can contact the toll-free number at 1-300-300-300,” he said. — Bernama
