Paralysis no hindrance to 86-year-old voter in Galas

GUA MUSANG: Old, they say, is gold. Safiah Daud, an octogenarian who suffers from paralysis, is testament to that adage.

The 86-year-old plucky grandmother proved that her medical condition was no stumbling block to fulfilling her patriotic duties.

The Kampung Kundur resident is a strong believer that in any election —general election or by-election — every vote counts.

It was with that in mind that Safiah fulfilled her responsibility as a voter in the Galas by-election yesterday.

“Someone fetched me and my grandchild this morning to enable me to vote in the by-election.

“I always vote because they say each vote counts,” she told Bernama after casting her vote at SK Sri Wangi here.

Another voter who attracted attention at the polling centre was Zanariah Salleh, 48, also from Kampung Kundur.

“I came early as it’s easier and you never know if it’s going to rain in the evening,” said the metre-tall housewife.

Zanariah, who has three school-going children, said she never missed a chance to vote because she wanted to make sure her children had bright future. — Bernama
