Narrow escape from falling tree

KUCHING: A young driver can count his lucky stars following an accident which saw him being thrown onto the front passenger seat, moments before a tree crashed on the driver’s side of the car.

The accident occurred along Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho at about 11pm.

The Proton Saga’s driver a 21-year-old man from Matang Jaya spun out of control as he was negotiating a bend along the wet road.

The car struck a kerb, the impact causing the young man to be thrown onto the front passenger seat, before the vehicle slammed into a tree on the roadside and landed on its side in a drain nearby.

Passing motorists

stopped upon seeing the accident and called the Civil Defence Department which sent an ambulance to the scene.

Rescue personnel retrieved the driver from the wrecked car and sent him to the hospital for treatment of minor cuts.

In another accident, a member of the General Operations Force sustained head injuries after his motorcycle crashed into the rear of a car yesterday.

The 30-something cop was riding along Jalan

Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce around 1pm when a Proton Wira got into his path after exiting from a junction, causing him to slam into its rear.

An ambulance brought the victim to Sarawak General Hospital where he was admitted.
