Parents urged to be involved in their children’s schools

SIBU: The managing director of Syarikat Layang Emas Enterprise, Layang Ngelai called on parents in villages to work with schools on their children’s education.

Speaking as the guest of honour at the telematch of SK Lubok Bemban in Mukah, he also called on them to support the activities of the Parent-Teacher Association because through such an organisation they would find strength in numbers.

“This is important because your participation and support will give the moral support the school needs in carrying out its duty and purpose, and this will help motivate the students towards the positive aspects of education and society.”

He also called on them to work with the PTA and be part of the organisation.

Taking the tellymatch as an example, he said the event had helped to strengthen the goodwill between the parents and the teachers, and with such an understanding, the two parties could accomplish great things together for the benefits of the school and the students.

Layang said the openness and willingness of parents to be involved in school activities would help open up their children because they were leading by example.

“This will help not only in their education, but also in moulding their behaviour and attitude. Ultimately, these youngsters will learn they cannot live alone. They have to be part of the society and participate.”

In the event, three Iban artistes, Wilson Meringai, Jackson Dana (JD) and Maria Jimmy entertained the participants.

Ngajat competition, karaoke competition and football match were among the fun activities in the telematch.

The headmaster of SK Lubok Bemban, Kana Bulit, Penghulu Uking Kudang and the chairman of PTA SK Lubok Bemban, Simeon Mujah were also present.
