M’sia palm oil exports fall 0.6 pct in October

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s palm oil exports fell by 0.6 per cent to 1.46 million tonnes in October 2010 compared with 1.47 million tonnes in the previous month, according to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

Exports of palm kernel oil was also down 22.31 per cent to 88,962 tonnes from 114,503 tonnes while that of palm kernel cake was up 1.92 per cent to 257,612 tonnes against 252,749 tonnes in September 2010, the MPOB said in a statement here.

Oleochemical exports rose 3.2 per cent to 177,450 tonnes from 171,950 tonnes.

However, there was no export for biodiesel in October 2010, it said.

On imports, the country brought in 62,476 tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) during the month, a decline of 26.95 per cent from 85,526 tonnes in September.

Meanwhile, palm oil stocks in October 2010 increased 4.85 per cent to 1.79 million tonnes from 1.71 million tonnes in September.

Of the amount, MPOB said CPO stocks accounted for 968,265 tonnes during the month from 929,225 tonnes previously while that of processed palm oil stood at 824,575 tonnes from 780,688 tonnes in September.

In terms of production, CPO output for October 2010 rose 4.71 per cent to 1.64 million tonnes compared with 1.56 million tonnes in September.

The production of palm kernel went up 3.02 per cent to 407,378 tonnes from 395,455 tonnes previously and crude palm kernel oil increased 23.82 per cent to 206,933 tonnes from 167,121 tonnes.

The ouput of palm kernel cake was also up by 24.12 per cent to 229,573 tonnes from 184,964 tonnes.

For October 2010, the average price of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) per tonne gained 7.01 per cent to RM31.44 per tonne. — Bernama
