KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has cancelled its flights to Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Bandung yesterday and today, due to ash plume from Mount Merapi.

The affected flights for yesterday were Kuala Lumpur–Jakarta (MH725) scheduled to depart at 6.05pm; Jakarta–Kuala Lumpur (MH724, 6.50pm) and Kuala Lumpur–Jakarta (MH727, 9.35pm).

According to a MAS statement here yesterday, the cancelled flight for today is Jakarta–Kuala Lumpur (MH726) scheduled to depart at 5.05am local time.

Flights to Yogyakarta and Bandung which remain cancelled are Kuala Lumpur–Yogyakarta (MH857) and Yogyakarta–Kuala Lumpur (MH856) until Nov 15, and Kuala Lumpur–Bandung (MH859) and Bandung–Kuala Lumpur (MH858) until Nov 11.

Passengers originally bound for Yogyakarta from Kuala Lumpur, could exchange their tickets to fly to Surabaya and vice-versa but the ground arrangements would not be covered by MAS, said the statement.

They could also get a full refund, depending on the terms and conditions of the fare type and re-book on the next available flight, not later than Nov 30.

MAS has also advised the passengers to check their flight status at www.malaysiaairlines.com before proceeding to the airport.

Alternatively, passengers could also call the MAS Call Centre at 1300-88-3000 (within Malaysia), +603-7843 3000 (outside Malaysia) or the ticketing offices for the latest schedules. — Bernama
