Chronically ill debt collector to hang for trafficking cannabis

SHAH ALAM:  A debt collector, who is suffering from a chronic disease, was sentenced to death by the High Court here yesterday after being found guilty of trafficking in 1,932 grammes of cannabis found in his car on May last year.

Justice Datuk Mohd Yazid Mustafa passed the sentence after he was satisfied that the accused, Mohd Riduan Shah Abdullah, 53, had failed to raise a reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case.

The accused was charged with committing the offence by the side of USJ 1 road, opposite the Giant Supermarket, Subang Jaya, near here at about 8.30pm on May 13 last year.

Mohd Riduan Shah was charged under Section 39 B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and sentenced under Section 39 B (2) of the same act which provided for the mandatory death sentence.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Nordin Ismail appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel James George. — Bernama
