KUCHING: A Land and Survey Department staff was killed in a traffic accident on his way to work when his motorcycle crashed into a car yesterday.

FATAL CRASH: Members of the public gather at the scene of the accident.

The deceased was identified as Amat Ishak Salam, 46, of Taman Alamanda Indah in Malihah.

The incident happened around 7.30am when Amat tried to overtake a car along Jalan Matang, but collided with an oncoming Proton Gen-2 heading in the opposite direction.

He was thrown against the front windscreen and bonnet of the car, and died on the spot from serious head injuries.

The Gen-2 driver, a woman, was left shaken by the accident but was otherwise unhurt.

District traffic police personnel were present at the scene to investigate the incident, and later sent the body to the mortuary where the victim’s family members and friends were waiting.

Amat left behind a wife and three young daughters.

In another accident, a temporary worker at Senari Port was left with a broken leg following a freak accident yesterday afternoon.

The 23-year-old man was exiting a toilet at the facility when a passing trailer truck lost control and rammed a stationary Perodua Kelisa, causing the car to lurch forward and hit the unfortunate victim.

He was temporarily pinned against the toilet wall by the Kenari before being freed by several other workers and sent to the hospital for treatment.
