KUALA LUMPUR: A fish farm worker pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court here yesterday, to a charge with attempting to run over a police officer last month.

Yam King Cheong, 36, from Cheras, is charged with using criminal force by attempting to run over Mohd Haswadi Zamri Shaari, from the Kuala Lumpur police contingent, at Jalan 2/125, in front of the Pasaraya KK Desa Petaling, Cheras here, last Oct 25. Yam, who was unrepresented, is charged under Section 352 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to three years or fine of up to RM1,000 or both, if convicted.

Earlier, prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Muhamad Sapri Yaakub offered bail of RM10,000 in one surety.

However, Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin refused bail as she was not satisfied with the guarantor who wanted to stand bail for Yam.

“The accused should find another guarantor because the one produced here could not convince the court that he could guarantee that the accused would be present at every hearing,” she added. — Bernama
