Four hurt in head-on crash


KOTA KINABALU: Four people, including a woman, were injured in a head-on collision involving a Toyota Vigo and a mini van at Km 36, Ranau/Kota Kinabalu on Thursday.

It was believed that the Toyota Vigo, said to be heading to Kota Kinabalu from Ranau and the mini van from the opposite direction, collided around 3.20pm due to slippery road conditions.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Department officer Newmond @ Paulus, when contacted, said a distress call was received at 3.30pm and a team was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“The Toyota Vigo driver and his passenger were trapped inside the car and it took us about five minutes to free them, while the mini van driver and his female passenger were freed by passers-by before our personnel arrived,” he said yesterday.

The victims, in their 30s, were all taken to the Ranau District Hospital, he said.
