KOTA KINABALU: Seven persons were injured, two critically, when the bus they were travelling in collided with an express bus at Mile 3, Tuaran Road here last night.

The two in critical condition suffered serious arm and neck injuries.

It was said that the bus with 30 passengers was heading for Telipok from the city centre at about 9.30pm when the driver braked abruptly to avoid colliding with a Proton Wira car that was making a left turn in front of it.

As a result, the express bus which was not transporting any passenger crashed into the back of the bus, causing the latter to land on its side.

The express bus then went up a traffic island and crashed into a lamp post.

The driver of the toppled bus was pinned in the driver’s seat and it took fire and rescue personnel about five minutes to free him.

All the victims were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
