Six years’ jail, whipping for armed robbery

KOTA KINABALU: Two local youths and an Indonesian man were jailed six years each and ordered to be whipped once, by the Sessions Court here yesterday, for armed robbery eight months ago.

Judge Ismail Brahim imposed the sentence on Hafizzan Hanafiah, 20, Mohd Afiq Sadinol, 22 and Miskal Yakub, 28, after the trio pleaded guilty to robbing an 18-year-old shop assistant of several packets of Nescafe 3 in 1, Panadol tablets and shavers at a shop in Kampung Air here on April 24.

The trio who were armed with an ice breaker during the incident, were charged under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum 20 years’ jail and whipping, on conviction.
