MIRI: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan has directed the director of the state Health Department to get the air-conditioning system at Poliklinik Tudan repaired quickly.

It was reported that the air-conditioner’s compressor broke down four months ago.

The director, Dr Chan said, would personally see to it that the problem would get solved.

Speaking to reporters after visiting Piasau Jaya 3, he said money for the repair is now available.

In view of that, he wanted the relevant authority to do the repair immediately.

He strongly felt there was a need for public service providers to set aside some money for emergency purposes.

“If any problem needs urgent attention, they can use the funds to solve it without any delay,” he said.

During his visit last Thursday, Dr Chan was not  pleased with the poor condition at Poliklinik Tudan.

To mitigate the situation temporarily he ordered 15 fans for the clinic.

At 8.30am the next morning, the fans were delivered and installed.

At 3pm, he ensured the delivery of five more fans to add to the eight from Divisional Health Department.

Earlier on, Dr Chan accompanied by mayor Lawrence Lai and Councillor Koh Ek Chong visited Piasau Jaya 3 whose residents had asked for more streetlights.

The residents said housebreaking and other crimes often occurred in the area due to insufficient street lightings, said the chairman of the Piasau Jaya 3 and 4 neighbourhood committee, Yahya Rosli.
