KUALA LUMPUR: The police  have introduced three initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of investigations, especially gambling activities.

The three initiatives are introducing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual, Portal C.I.D Update and Training Lab for Prevention of Gambling activities.

Inspector-General of Police Tan  Sri  Ismail  Omar  said police have published SOP Manual as a reference for investigating officers to be more professional, efficient, effective when resolving cases.

“The manual was a joint-effort by officers from the CID department  from Bukit Aman, Police Training College and district police headquarters that have vast experiences in handling murder, rape, assault, robbery  and  armed robbery,” he told reporters after launching the three initiative at the royal Malaysian police college.

Ismail said the  C.I.D Portal Update was a website that can be used to share reports and monitor progress of cases being investigated.

“Through the portal, a higher ranked officer can be in touch with lower ranked officers to provide guidance.

“The system will expedite and simplify the transfer of information, reports, news, directive and activities … as a provider of information and announcement of criminal investigation cases through bulletins  and reference or used as a library for other officers,” said Ismail.

He added that police would also enhance their knowledge on gambling activities and their modus operandi by specifically training  officers  to identify and expose such activities.

“We want our officers to have knowledge in every type of gambling available at  entertainment outlets and casino, including slot machines chips and other forms, to tackle illegal gambling activities efficiently and effectively,” he said. — Bernama
