KUCHING: Two 12-year-old boys were threatened at knife-point and robbed of RM1,000 in cash by three men in Taman BDC here, on Thursday afternoon.

The two friends, together with another boy, had gone to a departmental store around 4pm to buy futsal shoes, but left soon after as they could not find what they were looking for.

As they were walking behind the building of the departmental store, they were suddenly confronted by three men wearing full-face helmets on two motorcycles.

One of the men suddenly brandished a small kitchen knife and demanded the boys to surrender the cash they were carrying.

Fearing for their safety, the youngsters handed over the money to the armed man, who then sped off together with two accomplices.

One of the victims, who is the son of a policeman, lodged a report of the incident later the same night.

In another incident, a 13-year-old student suffered injuries to his arm and back after he refused to surrender his handphone to a motorcyclist, during a failed robbery incident on Thursday.

The victim, from Jalan Song, was walking along the roadside near his house when an unidentified man stopped next to him and tried to snatch the boy’s handphone.

However, he was able to fend off the man’s attempt, but ended being kicked to the ground and attacked with a knife by the would-be-robber, who then sped off empty-handed.

A police report was lodged immediately following the incident.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was beaten unconscious by a group of men, who then escaped with a handbag belonging to the victim’s girlfriend.

The incident happened around 9.30pm near the grounds of Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya, when the victim and his 28-year-old girlfriend were stopped by five unknown men on motorcycles.

The men surrounded the victim and attacked him with their helmets and a bamboo stick until he passed out, and then rode off with the couple’s motorcycle helmets and the handbag, which contained only RM40.

The victim was sent to the hospital and received outpatient treatment for injuries to his head and face, as well as bruises to his body.
