KUCHING: Youths who joined Kelab Rakan Muda will benefit a lot from amenities made available by the government said Kuching Division Youth and Sports officer Syed Zyed Wan Asnawi yesterday.

He said that the government, through the Youth and Sports Department had been and would continue to organise various youth development activities for Kelab Rakan Muda members.

In this respect, he urged youths, particularly those in Kuching division, to register with Kelab Rakan Muda so as to benefit from the facilities that were meant for them.

“Talking about benefits I think there are plenty and in order not to miss out I suggest that more youths will come forward and join the club.

“So far the Kelab Rakan Muda programmes had been receiving encouraging response but not joining the club as members,” he told The Borneo Post.

Zyed said he did not know the membership rate for Kelab Rakan Muda throughout Sarawak as he was only in-charge of Kuching division which comprised of six parliamentary constituencies where each constituency should have one such club.

According to him, for the six constituencies in Kuching the membership rate was at an average of 2,000 members.

Kelab Rakan Muda is a youth movement for those between 15 and 25 years old and it comes under the supervision of the Youth and Sports Department where in Sarawak the organisation was still registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) unlike in Peninsular Malaysia where it was registered with Registrar of Youths (ROY).

Basically, the purpose of introducing the Kelab Rakan Muda is to develop the youths in order to produce good future leaders with high spirit of volunteerism.
