Indonesian man gets three years for hitting woman

SIBU: A plantation worker was yesterday sentenced by the Sessions Court here to three years’ jail after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman.

Nawa Rodding, a 36-year-old Indonesian, was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years.

According to the facts of the case, Risnawati Idrus, 20, was doing laundry at a plantation worker’s quarters in Teku Road at 3.30pm last Nov 18 when she was suddenly attacked by Nawa using an iron rod.

Nawa was said to have been infuriated by the noise created by Risnawati when she prevented his children from playing with water.
