Six months’ jail and fine of RM5,000 for bribery

KUCHING: A Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism enforcement officer was sentenced to six months’ jail and fined RM5,000 after he was found guilty of bribery.

Aidil Mazha Mazlan who was accused of committing the offence three years ago failed to cast reasonable doubt on the prosecution’s case.

Aidil, 28, was found guilty of receiving RM150 from a man named Ting See Siong who was said to be involved in a case classified under Consumerism Act 1999.

He received the bribe at a shop when he wanted to buy a new cellphone priced at RM450, for which he paid RM300 only.

Anti-Corruption Commission officer Katherine Nais appeared for the prosecution while Aidil was represented by Osman Ibrahim.
