KOTA KINABALU: A soldier who allegedly raped a girl on three different occasions last year, will be tried in the Sessions Court here on Feb 14-16 next year.

High Court deputy registrar Zaini Fishir @ Fisal fixed the dates after Azizuddin Awang Hamat, 27, from Kelantan pleaded not guilty to the three charges yesterday.

The accused, who was unrepresented, allegedly raped the 16-year-old girl in a storeroom at the Lok Kawi camp in Penampang between June and July, 2009.

He allegedly raped the girl for the second and third times at 6.30pm and 2am at the same place between June and July, 2009.

The charges under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code carry a maximum of 20 years’ jail and whipping.

Zaini, who sat as a Sessions Court judge, granted Azizuddin RM3,000 bail with two local sureties pending his trial.

Prosecuting officer ASP Sabrina Jinius told the court that the prosecution will be calling 21 witnesses to testify against the accused.
