KUCHING: A man described as a habitual thief was arrested on Friday night for a recent burglary in which he was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) carting away stolen items.
A police team from state headquarters, led by ASP Abdul Razak Abdul Wahab, nabbed the 50-year-old around 9pm at a flat complex in Sama Jaya and managed to recover a computer and 12 bottles of liquor.
The items were stolen from an entertainment outlet at Chonglin Park during a break-in on Nov 23 which resulted in over RM20,000 in losses.
However, other items taken from the outlet, such as a cash register, karaoke set and bottles of wine were not found at the flat.
Police were able to track down the suspect after recognising him from a CCTV recording provided by the outlet’s owner.
According to a source, the suspect was a habitual thief who had been arrested for similar offences numerous times in the past.
He is being held in the lockup, pending further investigation.
