Families programme begins in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: The Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affairs in collaboration with the Lahad Datu District Office yesterday launched the ‘Happy Families’ programme to bring awareness to the public about the importance of the family institution.

According to the chairman of the programme who is also Lahad Datu District officer Haji Zulkifli Nasir said the programme would be organised annually to forge closer links and rapport between the family and society.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Hj Datu Nasrun Hj Datu Mansur in his speech said the programme was timely in order to provide space and opportunity for everyone to reassess their roles within the family institution.

His speech was delivered by the Peoples’ Development Leader, Aljen Johny.

Datu Nasrun also said that the role of the family is very important to provide a basis for promoting good values in nation building.

He also advised parents to apply and practice religious values among their family members in their daily lives. In conjunction with the launching a cooking contest, a colouring and a drawing contest were held.

Agencies like Pemadam and the Social Welfare department exhibited their roles in society for the information of visitors who were in attendance.

Also present were Assistant District officer Juraimin Hj Jadil and officers representing the various ministries, government departments and agencies in Lahad Datu.
