Job placement programme offers 2,300 vacancies in Kuala Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Job Placement Programme carried out by the Manpower Department is offering 2,300 positions in the various sectors to job seekers in the city centre involving about 50 employers.

Manpower Department Director-General Datuk Sheikh Yahya Sheikh Mohamed said 35 per cent of all the jobs offered were for senior positions such as managers while another 35 per cent were for mid-level positions such as clerks and technicians.

The rest were for lower category positions such as production operators and general workers.

“Our main focus is on the ‘Job Placement Programme — Resoluteness to Work’ at the Terengganu state level 2010, involving 539 hardcore poor throughout the country.

“In Terengganu alone, there are 42 hardcore poor under the programme who will be offered jobs.

They are individuals earning less than RM440 per month who should be given jobs to raise their income,” he said.

He disclosed this to reporters at the Job Placement Programme —Resoluteness to Work at the Terengganu state level here yesterday.

In Kota Baharu, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin said the government was targeting to eliminate totally hardcore poor families in Kelantan by the end of the year.

He said that out of the 4,396 household heads who were categorised as hardcore poor previously, the number had now dropped to 50 household heads in the state.

“We hope that by Dec 31, 2010, there will be zero hardcore poor household heads because of the continuous efforts carried out by the federal government to tackle the problems of poverty in the state,” he said when launching the Kelantan ‘Special Job Placement Programme — Resoluteness to Work’.
