Local fined for possessing and taking syabu

LABUAN: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday fined a 26-year-old local for possessing and consuming syabu.

Alvin Kahal was fined a total of RM3,000 and ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years after he pleaded guilty of possessing the drug at a bus stop in the Batu Arang housing area at 3.04pm on October 9 this year.

Prosecuting officer Hasnan Abidin informed the court that the police found on Alvin a straw which contained 0.1 gram of syabu.

He also tested positive for drug at the police station.

Magistrate Korventt Whezzar found the accused guilty under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and also under Section 15 (1) (c) of the same Act which carries a fine of RM1,500 or a jail term of five months each.

Meanwhile, the hearing of the syabu possession case of a 20-year-old Filipino was postponed to next week to enable the Welfare Department to produce a report of the accused.

Asraf Saidul, 20, was detained by the police for possessing 1.95 grams of syabu in front of the Toko Sunrise premises at 11.20am on October 10 this year.

Meanwhile, the same court ordered Mohd Salleh Munip, 34, who was accused of physically hurting his girlfriend, to hire a lawyer to represent him at his trial on December 21.
