KUALA LUMPUR: The Indonesian militant arrested in Malaysia will be extradited, said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar.

Tan Sri Ismail Omar

He said the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) was in the process of sending Fadzli Sadama, 27, back to Indonesia.

“We have agreed to extradite him. It is just a technical matter, don’t make it an issue,” he told reporters after signing Permanent Procedure (Protap No. 15) between PDRM and Indonesian Police (Polri) in Bukit Aman yesterday.

Recently-appointed Indonesian police chief Gen Drs Timur Pradopo was also present.

Fadzli was arrested in Johor in Oct while trying to smuggling firearm into Indonesia.

He is being detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Ismail said Fadzli was wanted in the RM139mil robbery of an international bank in Medan, Sumatera.

He was also planning to attack an Indonesian prison to free best friend Toni Togar, mastermind of the bombing of JW Marriot Hotel in Jakarta seven years ago.

Ismail said police believed that those who harboured and financed the militant were unware of his activities.

PDRM and Polri agreed to step up cooperation to track down remaining members of militant groups if they were still hiding in Malaysia.

He added PDRM should be commended for arresting Fadzli and exposing terrorism acitiviites of a foreign militant.

On the agreement, Ismail said it was aimed at enhancing PDRM-Polri cooperation at border areas be it on land or sea.

Protap existed since formation of the Malaysia-Indonesia General Border Committee (GBC) in 1972 to tackle the communist threat and traditional crimes.

On Jan 18 2007, PDRM and Polri agreed to amend Protap No. 15 to make it more relevant. — Bernama
