SIBU: A man was killed, his son sustained facial injuries and four family members suffered minor injuries after the car the family was in was rammed by an oncoming car at Kemunyang Camp, about 10 miles from town yesterday around 6pm.

FATAL ACCIDENT: Police directing traffic at the scene.

The driver, in his 40s, perished at the scene while his wife beside him suffered minor injuries.

The couple has five children. The youngest son aged nine years’ old is in the Emergency Unit of the hospital here, while the other four children in the car sustained minor cuts. Rabu Jalie from Rumah Randi, in his 30s, the driver of the oncoming car had chest injuries. He was the only one in the car.

According to the deceased’s wife, the family was on the way home from a Hash run.

She saw Rabu’s car in the distance, coming from the opposite direction at high speed. It was snaking on the road which was wet and slippery as it had rained earlier.

Her husband pulled up by the roadside to avoid colliding with the car.

“The oncoming car rammed into us even though our car had stopped by the roadside. The impact of the collision sent our car plunging into a monsoon drain,” the woman said at the scene.

Both cars were badly damaged on the front.

An ambulance and a Civil Defence Department vehicle went to the scene to help while Traffic Police controlled the traffic.
