KUCHING: Residents of Kampung Giam, a Bidayuh settlement along Jalan Puncak Borneo, have been waiting for the local authority to clear the piles of earth at two separate locations along their village road.

GRAVEL PROBLEM: The landslide near to the suspension bridge.

An anonymous complainant said the piles of earth were due to a landslide, which occured about two months ago.

He said while the villagers were grateful that the third location had been cleared, nevertheless they were quite unhappy with the apathetic attitude of the local council to clear the two affected locations.

“I have talked to the councillor (about the landslide), but of yesterday no action has been taken,” said the complainant, who is a member of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

According to the complainant, the said councillor has informed the council about the problem.

The landslide has also caused gravels to cover part of the suspension bridge, he said, adding that the villagers managed to clear the gravels on their own.

However, the same problem resurfaced due to the frequent rainfall which washed away the gravel from the road to the bridge.

It was believed that few council staff has visited the scene, but the villagers are still waiting for removal of the earth piles.

“If only the council can act now, it will be a very nice Christmas present for the villagers,” he said, adding that the stretch of road is also used for parking spaces for the villagers across the river.
