KUCHING: Medical equipment, furniture, as well as a mountain of documents were seen being moved into the new public medical centre, formerly known as Sarawak International Medical Centre (SIMC) in Kota Samarahan, since last Monday (Dec 20).

That was for the preparation of its operation, scheduled to begin from Jan 1, 2011.

Tentatively, the centre is called Sarawak Heart and Cancer Centre.

Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Cardiac Unit head Dr Sim Kui Hian recently said the centre would be mainly for heart and cancer patients.

“All the equipment and facilities of SIMC have been handed over to SGH. With such advanced facilities, I believe we could offer our patients with five-star medical services but with lower and more affordable fees,” he said.

He also explained that SGH had planned to transfer heart and cancer patients to the new centre starting Dec 27.

The medical centre currently has 168 beds.
