Shortage of materials hampers NKRA projects

LAWAS: The shortage of construction materials has thrown a spanner in the works of several projects which are placed under the National Key Results Areas (NKRAs).

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the situation should be resolved by both federal and state government agencies quickly.

He stressed that the problem deserved serious attention as it was happening in various parts of the state and these projects were under the NKRAs.

“Some of the problems involved shortage of stones, which are from the state. Perhaps, the state and federal agencies should discuss it and meet with the suppliers to give projects under the NKRAs priority attention.

“Perhaps what the suppliers can do is step up production,” he said.

Muhyiddin said this in a press conference at the end of his two-day tour of Limbang and Lawas.

“Apart from the shortfall of construction materials, I am generally happy with the performance (of these projects),” he said.

On a different matter, Muhyiddin dismissed the action by Selangor state government to ban the 1Malaysia logo.

He described the move as an ‘act of desperation and fear’.

Muhyiddin said the groundswell support for the 1Malaysian concept by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was the biggest threat to Pakatan Rakyat, and they were running scared.

“The Selangor government is cowardly,” he said.

Meanwhile, during a meet-the-people session in Lawas, Muhyiddin called on the people to continue supporting Barisan Nasional (BN) government so that it could continue to bring more progress and development for the benefit of the people.
