KOTA KINABALU: The five-storey parking complex project at Queen Elizabeth Hospital II, which is scheduled for completion on Feb 22 next year, will provide 278 parking bays to overcome the acute shortage of parking space at the hospital.

Disclosing this yesterday, QEH II Director Dr Hj Awang Setia Hj Musleh hoped that the parking problem at the hospital would be resolved when the complex is ready for use.

The existing car park in front of the hospital provides only about 60 parking bays, which are grossly inadequate to meet the needs of the many patients, family members and relatives coming to the hospital daily.

Dr Awang urged visitors to be patient pending the completion of the project, and he advised them to park near the Damai Community Centre and utilise the shuttle bus service which commutes between the community centre and the hospital.

The bus service is provided by Sabah Medical  Centre (SMC) and the KPJGroup, he said.

On parking fees, he said he had not received any instructions from the government, but he believed parking at the hospital should be free of charge.
