KOTA KINABALU: About 60 people from 13 families were made homeless after four houses on stilts at Kampung Tanjung Aru Lama here were destroyed by fire on Saturday night.
Lintas Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Mohamad Nor Amit said four fire engines with 20 personnel from Lintas and Kota Kinabalu rushed to the scene after receiving a call about 10.25pm.
He said the fire personnel managed to control the fire from spreading to the other houses about 11.10pm.
“The fire was totally put out around 1am,” Mohamad Nor said, adding no casualty was reported and the cause of the fire and loss were still under investigation.
Meanwhile, Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, who is also the Tanjung Aru assemblyman, said assistance would be channelled to all the fire victims as soon as possible.
