KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s first woman rocker Nadia, known for her song ‘Salam Untuk Kekasih’, will attempt a return with a new album, including two new singles by January.

After almost 10 years of silence, she is now confident of coming out with a new single for her fans who have always encouraged her to do a comeback in the music industry.

Nadia said the new singles, entitled ‘Buatmu Kekasih’ and ‘Datanglah Padaku’, would be included in a new compilation album which is expected to be launched next month.

“Once the album is launched, we will conduct a showcase tour throughout Sabah to promote it before going to Peninsular Malaysia for the similar purpose,” she said when met at a cafe in Kinabalu Daya Hotel here yesterday.

Nadia said since she has her own production company, ‘Nadia Event & Entertainment’, all promotional activities will be managed by the company.

“I will move on my own without having to be bound to any production company. However, for the distribution, I will get the help from the Music Valley,” she added.

She said the new album is dedicated to her fans who have waited for a long time for it.

Nadia added that she would be managing her own artistes under her production company. Through a karaoke competition which will be held on December 29 at Anjung Senja, she will select potential talents to be the artistes under her wing.

Sharing the challenges when attempting to create a name as a new artiste, Nadia recalled when she first joined the music industry.

“I started my career when I got an offer from one of the recording companies. They had heard me singing at one of the clubs in Kuala Lumpur and then I was offered to be a singer.”

“However, I refused because they did not give me an opportunity to sing my own songs and instead asked me to sing their established composer songs.”

“I still remember when I went to a recording company to hand in my own demo tape produced by me, the company rejected my songs without even listening to them. I was very disappointed but I never ceased to try at other companies,” she said.

Nadia said she had proven to the people who had rejected her songs that she could be as successful by singing her own songs.

“My song, ‘Salam Untuk Kekasih’, had won two awards in 1996 and 1997 respectively,” she said.

She added that on December 29, she would perform and sing for the first time her new singles at the Karaoke Suara Retro and Battle of the Band competition in conjunction with the Youthtown KK Carnival and New Year celebration.
