KUCHING: Students at Curtin University Sarawak can graduate with a high-quality education with the most fulfilling learning experience.

In a press release issued here, the university said its campus offers the best possible facilities one would expect from Curtin’s first international branch campus, a joint venture with the state government.

They can choose from an extensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses customised to suit their needs.

The local campus has a learning centre, library, computing facilities, counselling service, choice of food and beverage outlets, health services, public transport, banking facilities, shops, secure student housing, as well as a modern multi-purpose health, recreation and events centre.

Its courses are identical in all aspects to those offered at Curtin’s main campus in Western Australia, are endorsed by Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysian Qualifications Agency and Public Services Department of Malaysia; and accredited by professional bodies.

Curtin Sarawak is one of only eight universities granted self-accreditation status by Malaysian Qualifications Agency and also achieved a ‘Tier 5: Excellent’ rating in its SETARA rating system for institutions of higher learning, which placed Curtin Sarawak among the top 18 universities in Malaysia.

To best meet student and industry needs, it applies Curtin’s ‘triple-I’ model, which ensures industry links, intercultural and indigenous awareness and interdisciplinary study are embedded into each course curriculum.

As a result, its students receive a diverse, challenging and rewarding education grounded in the real world, and they will be job-ready when they graduate.

Curtin Sarawak doubles students’ options of qualifications by offering an exciting range of double major combinations from its Bachelor of Commerce programme.

What’s more, they can complete the requirements for two degrees in less time than it would normally take to complete two degrees sequentially.

Students may even consider completing one major at Curtin Sarawak and the other at The Curtin Business School at Curtin’s main campus in Western Australia.

Its introduction of common first year pre-majors for all undergraduate programmes under Curtin’s revolutionary ‘triple-I’ curriculum model gives students the option of completing their pre-major at Curtin Sarawak at a fraction of the fees for equivalent courses in Australia before they embark on their majors or double majors at Curtin’s main campus in Western Australia.

This translates into significant savings in their first year, as well as a wider choice of up to 40 majors. Due to the synergy between the two campuses, they can actually choose to transfer to Perth at any time during the course of their studies at Curtin Sarawak.

Academic staff at Curtin Sarawak also prepares students to live and work within a global environment by ensuring the academic skills and practical experience that students accumulate are informed by the latest research and partnership with industry, government and community.

They also liaise with their counterparts in Australia to provide important linkages, services and supervision, ensuring that the academic standard at Curtin Sarawak is the same as Curtin’s Australian campuses.

Curtin Sarawak aims to produce graduates of the highest calibre by encouraging student learning and development beyond the classroom and putting together distinctive programmes to develop talented and promising students for a variety of leadership roles.

Students can maximise their potential for career excellence or academic distinction as a student ambassador of John Curtin Leadership Academy, engage with the local community through Curtin Volunteers!, develop peer mentoring skills or gain practical experience in the workplace.

There are clubs, societies, sports and social events to suit everyone and create a university experience well beyond their studies.

Curtin Sarawak students are particularly appreciative of the university’s initiatives to match its graduates with suitable employers upon graduation through its placement service, which is approached for suitable candidates by many leading companies.

Recognition of its courses by Public Services Department (JPA) further ensures employment opportunities for its graduates in the government sector.

If students do not meet Curtin’s academic and English language requirements for entry, it also offers a range of alternative English language pathways to help them gain entry, such as Intensive English Programme and English Language Bridging Programme through The Learning Centre.

Scholarships are part of Curtin Sarawak’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence and enabling students from all backgrounds to realise their potentials, graduate with high practical employability and achieve their ambitions.

It offers a range of scholarship packages from the university; the Western Australian, Sarawak and Sabah state governments, and corporate sector.

Students can also apply for study loans from PTPTN, Yayasan Sarawak and other bodies. A short-term Student Exchange programme is also available.
