BINTULU: The locals have been advised to remain united behind the state government so that Bintulu division will continue to progress.

Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Talib Zulpilip said there was no reason for the people to want change of government when the present one was doing a good job.

“We can see clearly how Bintulu has transformed from a small place to a bustling town close to achieving city status,” he said at the opening of ‘Malam Wajah Kita’ organised by the Federation Of Registered Chinese Association (Forca) Bintulu and Bintulu Resident’s Office in the Esplanade, Thursday night.

Talib, the assemblyman for Jepak, said the prosperity and wellbeing of the town was the result of a capable government.

“It’s this prosperity that draws not only Malaysians, but also foreigners to Bintulu,” he said, adding that a growing town like Bintulu had everything to lose if the country was in turmoil because of the political short-sightedness of the people.

“Therefore, make the right choice so that we will continue to prosper,” he said.

On the event, he said it was a positive means of fostering unity among the people.

“Tonight we are uniting people through various cultural events. It will go a long way in making people to appreciate one another,” Talib said.

Bintulu District Officer Tuah Suni and Forca Bintulu chairman Pui Kian Onn were among those present.
