SIBU: People of all races must respect each other’s culture and religion in order to strengthen ties and live harmoniously.

A political secretary to the Chief Minister’s Office, Abu Seman Jahwie said harmonious living among the races was the foundation to creating a nation of stability, peace and prosperity.

“A country which is politically stable and peaceful will enable the government to smoothly implement development programmes to benefit all races,” he said as guest-of-honour at a New Year gathering cum closing of Christmas celebration at Kampung Lintang in Balingian near here recently.

Abu Seman who is also Jemoreng assemblyman said a politically stable country would attract foreign investments.

“When more foreign investors come, there will be more job opportunities for locals.

“Balingian situated in the regional development of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) has seen the success of attracting foreign investment by providing capital. The building of aluminum smelting plant in Balingian is one good example,” he said.

Abu Seman was confident more foreign investments in related industries would flow to Balingian.

“Thus the people in Balingian should continue to stay solidly behind the Barisan Nasional government in the impending state election,” he added.

The BN government had proven its ability to administer the state with Balingian area connected by roads with vast areas of oil palm plantations.

”Balingian chosen by the government as the Rural Growth Centre (RGC) will experience an obvious transformation when SCORE is fully implemented within 20 years’ time,” he said.

The gathering was made merrier with the presentation of cultural dances, karaoke singing and lucky draw.
