Defending champs Selangor eye Charity Shield hat-trick

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor have started preparations early in their bid to win the Charity Shield (Sultan Ahmad Shah Trophy) for the third consecutive season when facing Kelantan at the Shah Alam Stadium on Jan 29.

The Charity Shield match that will mark the start of the new season will feature Selangor as the Super League champion against Malaysia Cup champion Kelantan.

Football Association of Selangor (FAS) secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said Selangor who had beaten the then Malaysia Cup champion Negeri Sembilan at the Paroi Stadium in Seremban last year, hope to repeat a similar feat to complete the hat-trick.

“Only this time we hope to do it in front of our own fans,” he said.

Hamidin said the FA Cup draw had also been favourable to Selangor who received a bye in the first round that kicks off on Feb 19.

Last year Selangor failed to clear the semi-final hurdle after losing to defending champion Negeri Sembilan. — Bernama
