PETALING JAYA: Fifteen controlled items will be listed under the Price Control Scheme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the scheme would take effect two or three days before the Chinese New Year which falls on Feb 2.

Among the items that will be in the list are pork, chicken and garlic.

“The process of listing the items is still being done based on their popularity among the Chinese community and the final list will be announced two weeks before CNY,” he told reporters after launching the 7th Malaysian International Mattress Festival at Ikano Power Center here yesterday.

He added that the prices of the items in the list would be determined after discussions with industry players.

Asked about the cooking oil situation as consumers have been complaining of shortages, Ismail Sabri advised buyers not to resort to panic buying because the government had stepped in to get manufacturers to increase production by 84,000 tonnes this month. — Bernam
