1,900 join State Secretary for mass aerobics

SIBU: Some 1,900 participants took part in the mass aerobics with State Secretary Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani at Town Square phase 1 yesterday.

The programme that started as early as 7am was partaken by government servants, private agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), various associations and private individuals.

Among those who took part were Second Finance Minister and Minister of Environment and Public Health Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Daniel Ngieng, SMC secretary Hii Chang Kee and Nangka assemblyman Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, Pelawan assemblyman Vincent Goh, Sibu Resident Sim Kok Kee and Temenggong Sir Adrian Ringgau.

The activity was organised in conjunction with Resident and District Office (Rando) Sports Sibu branch and spiced up with poco-poco competitions.

Education Group team emerged champion in the poco-poco competition for the Rando Sports Sibu branch.

Second and third places went to Landas and Military Boy respectively. The latter was announced as the best performance.

Champion of the poco-poco competition for the staff of Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau Rando went to Kanowit Rando.

Chabik Geronong team was placed second followed by Sibu Rando.

The winners received hampers for their efforts.

During the event, Sibu Resident Sim Kok Kee said organising the kind of healthy activities was aimed to foster closer rapport between the civil servants and the community.

He said the activities were organised for the first time this year.

“The programme will be held once a month on Saturdays,” he told reporters.

“With a healthy body, civil servants will be able to serve the public better,” he added.
