Headmaster killed in crash with 4WD

ENGKILILI: A headmaster was killed when he crashed his Proton Iswara into a Pajero at the foot of a hill near Kampung San Raba near here at 1.30pm on Friday.

FATAL CRASH: The victim’s body is seen by the side of his badly damaged vehicle.

A source said Umpi Belasan, 56, was on his way to Betong from Sri Aman when he collided with the 4WD belonging to a government department.

The SK St Mark, Ulu Layar headmaster is said to have died on the spot.

His wife, Catherine Sindu, 49, who was in the vehicle with him, suffered light injuries and was sent to the Sri Aman Hospital.

The male driver of the Pajero was not injured.

The accident also caused a police truck, which was transporting some General Operations Force (GOF) personnel from Kuching to Miri, to overturn onto the side of the road.

Umpi’s wake will be held at his home in Taman Siang, Sri Aman.
