KUALA LUMPUR: More aggressive efforts should be undertaken to strengthen national unity, said 1Malaysia Foundation trustee Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

He said promoting the concept in the context of a multi-racial country is not only the government’s responsibility but also the private sector via donations and charity work.

“Everyone should contribute towards harmony and unity.

Corporations should promote racial understanding via civic, cultural and sports actiivites,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Lee said the establishment of multi-racial clubs and organisations can promote racial interaction thus strengthening unity among Malaysians.

Although this might not be easy to implement on a big scale, the clubs and organisations should promote a multi-racial membership.

He said kindergartens, schools and universities should be restructured to encourage interaction and tackle racial polarisation. — Bernama
