KUCHING: A 35-year-old mental hospital patient was charged in the Sessions Court yesterday with causing grievous hurt to his ward-mate on Wednesday.

Chai Ching Fook appeared before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman who ordered the accused to undergo one month’s observation at Hospital Sentosa.

Afidah reserved Feb 10 for further mention of the case. No plea was taken.

Chai, however, did not seem to understand when the court interpreter read the charge to him.

Speaking in Chinese, he told the interpreter that he did not act on purpose.

Both the accused and the victim were admitted in the same Male Acute Ward of Hospital Sentosa.

Chai was said to have caused hurt to the victim using a metal bedpost to hit the back of his victim’s head.

The victim, Charlie Sim, 25, was unconscious after the attack and as at press time was warded at Sarawak General Hospital.

The accused was not represented while Chief Inspector Teo Soon Teik prosecuted.
