MMEA seizes firearms from boat

SANDAKAN: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency has seized three shotguns, two of them home-made, and 32 rounds of ammunition from a fishing boat near Berhala island.

The 60-year-old Malaysian skipper of the boat and three crew members, Filipinos aged 31 to 36, were arrested, the agency enforcement chief for Sandakan, Capt Onn Mohamad Khalil, said yesterday.

The agency officers stopped the boat and inspected it at about 7pm yesterday and found the firearms, he said.

The skipper and crew members are being remanded for investigations. — Bernama
