KUALA LUMPUR: A final decision on whether or not the Malaysian Amateur Athletic Union (MAAU) will proceed with athlete training in Ranau, Sabah, will be made after a survey on the facilities and infrastructure available there.

MAAU president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said following talks with council members, they agreed that a working visit was necessary before deciding on changing the training venue to prepare athletes for the Sea Games in Indonesia in November.

“I will go there with a National Sports Council (NSC) representative, either tomorrow or the following day, to check out if the facilities there and if they are suitable, we will proceed with out plan.

“However, we must also consider other views and opinions to avoid problems later,” he said when contacted by Bernama here yesterday.

Two days ago, the MAAU decided to relocate their training programme from the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil to the Ranau Sports Complex in Sabah, citing frequent disturbances at the former. — Bernama
