KUALA LUMPUR: The government and government-linked companies (GLCs) should let a local ICT association like the National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom), undertake their research in anything related to the ICT Industry.

Pikom president Shaifubahrim Saleh said the organisation should be allowed to delve into its basic data to ensure all local stakeholders and companies make better decisions.

“Undertaking the research and getting feedback from our own people is better than relying on outside reports that may not be accurate,” he told reporters after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Association for ICT Promotion.

Predicting a positive outlook for the ICT industry, with overall growth of above eight per cent, he expressed the hope that other government and private sector related industries will sign a MoU or initiative with Pikom.

“Collaboration with other industries is important, because ICT had been used to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

“We are certainly encouraging Malaysian companies to come forward to collaborate to ensure a win-win situation between them and other outside companies,” he said.

Commenting on the MoU, Shaifubahrim said the objective is to further the development of bilateral relations by providing a forum for business people of both countries to meet, discuss and explore business opportunities in trade, investment, transfer of technology, service and other related electronic industrial sectors.

He added the agreement also acts as a hub for the expansion of Korean companies in the region, tapping into Malaysia’s vast network and strength in Asean and the Islamic world.

He said the MoU between associations like Pikom and KAIT would also provide a platform for business matching, as well as source of information of market segment trend’s in ICT penetration. — Bernama
