KUCHING: A joint force of the DAP, PKR, SNAP and PAS here has urged the federal government to look into the death of Teoh Beng Hock through the newly formed Royal Commission of Inquiry.

DAP state deputy publicity secretary Wong King Wei said yesterday that to press for the truth, a campaign to gather as many signatures as possible from the public, would take place at Premier 101 here from 8pm to 10pm today.

“We all want to know the truth and more importantly, justice has to be done
for Teoh Beng Hock who died on July 16, 2009,” he told a news conference at the DAP headquarters here.

Wong stressed that the Royal Commission must carry out a thorough investigation to determine the cause of Teoh’s death.

“The Royal Commission must be transparent throughout the investigation, and I believe the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has heard our voices as we have conveyed messages to them all over Malaysia.

“The BN government owes us an explanation and what the family of Teoh needs is justice and of course, the truth,” he said.

He added that the enforcement agencies in the country were supposed to protect the people and do the right things rather than being involved in misconduct.

PKR state publicity chief See Chee How felt that the Royal Commission could be a gimmick of the BN government to fish votes in the coming Tenang by-election.

Last Wednesday, Coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas said there was not enough evidence to prove either homicide or suicide in the case of Teoh, whose body was found beneath the MACC tower on July 16, 2009.

Teoh’s family has insisted that the 30-year-old, who was not under suspicion of any crime himself and was due to marry his pregnant fiancee the next day, did not kill himself.
