POIC expected to generate economic spin-off for Sabah

LAHAD DATU: Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) Lahad Datu is expected to generate economic spin-off for the state when the mega projects currently under construction are completed and fully developed.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Haji Datu Nasrun Haji Datu Mansur said POIC projects were not only aimed at the agriculture-based activities, but also provided various other forms of development.

“This growth will not only develop Lahad Datu, but will indirectly attract international investment and provides many employment opportunities for community to improve their economic status through various business opportunities,” said Nasrun who is Lahad Datu assemblyman.

He said the existence of POIC enabled the development of infrastructure and generate a viable economy in this area.

He said these include the construction of residential and commercial projects, implementation of flood mitigation project worth RM120 million, which was about 80 percent completed.

“With the existence POIC project, several other mega projects will be implemented such as the new Lahad Datu Airport project and North Cross Road, which connects Silam Road and POIC through Dam Road,” he said.

Nasrun said the Government had also increased POIC Lahad Datu area from 1,000 acres area to 4,000 acres due to encouraging investers’ interest in POIC.

Nasrun said the people should be grateful to the many efforts undertaken by the government to bring about mainstream development.
