Suluk cultural village proposed

TAWAU: It would be good to have a Suluk community cultural village in the state as this could not only enable the younger generation to understand Suluk history but also act as a commercial product outlet for tourists coming from abroad to Sabah, the land below the wind.

State Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said the Suluk community has its own history, culture and heritage.

It is important for the younger generation to remember, maintain and practise these in their daily lives.

Tawfiq fully supports such suggestion and will discuss the matter with the arts, culture and heritage ministry for further action.

He is confident that the Suluk community in Sabah are Malaysians who are patriotic towards the country.

“They should not be differentiated with the other communities.”

He told the media this after officiating the closing ceremony of a seminar on Suluk culture, art and heritage at the hall of the district library here yesterday afternoon.

The seminar was organised by the Culture, Art and Heritage Bureau of Tawau Umno P190.

“The Suluk community should unite and have a new spirit to grow in the various sectors.

“The Suluk community is a brave community. They should act logically, practically, think wisely and have good education for a bright future,” Tawfiq said.
