MELBOURNE: Crime prevention experts from Malaysia and other Asia-Pacific countries will attend a four-day University of Adelaide forum from Sunday to discuss regional strategies to reduce crime.

“Crime Prevention 2011 and Beyond” will see law enforcement delegates, members of the judiciary, academics and senior crime prevention personnel share successful strategies to combat drug and alcohol-related offences, crime gangs, vehicle thefts, drag racing and other serious offences across the Asia-Pacific.

Delegates will come from Australia, New Zealand, Hong kong, Macau, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Brunei.

Keynote addresses will be delivered by the South Australian Police Commissioner Mal Hyde, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Crime Commission at the forum, at the University of Adelaide’s Kathleen Lumley College.

Some of the topics under discussion are organised crime and bikers, protecting children in an online environment, crime prevention and the elderly, successful strategies to combat motor theft, crime prevention through environmental design, and keeping track of criminals via Crimtrac, a leading technology developed in Australia.

The Australian Crime Prevention Council (ACPC) is organising the forum in conjunction with the Australian Institute of International Affairs (SA Branch) and the University of Adelaide. — Bernama
