KAPIT: Artistes can complement the government’s development initiatives since they have legions of fans.

“Apart from enabling fans to know who you are, you can also attract young people to be with us (government), talk to them, move with them, together to develop Malaysia,” said Land Development Minister Dato Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.

Masing said this at a press conference yesterday to welcome a group of artistes who flew in from Kuala Lumpur to participate in the ‘Mesra Belia Sarawak 2011’ programme.

The two-day event starts today at Rumah Enting, Nanga Banyau .

The minister was hopeful that the presence of many artistes would attract the attention of youths to the programme.

“We bring youths together and the artistes as role models for youths to help us develop Malaysia. The state election is very near. You make use of
your experience to help youth connect to the government,” he urged.

He added that the boys and girls from the longhouses would enjoy their performance over the next two days.

Kapit is the first stop for the artistes, to be followed by Baleh, Marudi and Tebedu. The carnival will also be held at other state constituencies until April.
Guitarist Edry Hashim has been scheduled to perform at the carnival and he would conduct a ‘guitar clinic’ for those who wish to learn how to play the guitar while the entertainment teams from Mila AF, Farina and May will entertain the crowd.

Members of Persatuan Alumni Uitm Kapit will also be around to present a talk to motivate both parents and children on education.

Meanwhile, the deputy minister for Youth and Sports Malaysia Datuk Razali Ibrahim is scheduled to visit Kapit on Feb 25 and 26 on a two-day working visit.
